Update 03.24.24 below at the end. May I ask? If this was helpful please like this review. Update 12.07.24 Pic added Went again for Crawfish,Fired Catfish, and. Red beans and rice. Delicious A must try. My family (with 2 kids) went on a Saturday during lunch. It was a little busy however the food still came out HOT and fast. The staff was very friendly and took their time to explain everything since it was our first time. The fried okra was fresh. The Dirty rice was delicious especially if you like it "DIRTY" lots of flavor! The red beans and rice were great. In the future I'd order it w Dirty rice instead of white rice. Chicken wings are superb plain "original" flavor lightly battered wings. Other customers all had the boudin balls that looked Great and the fried catfish looked great. (lots of food envy) My wife being from Louisiana loved it. We look forward to coming again. *Update: We still visit quite often l. We really enjoyed the Boudin and Jambalaya Balls. The Jambalaya Balls are new to me. So much flavor, it almost tastes like they use some kind of smoked meat in there. Also, very limited while it's in season is the whole boiled Crawfish. 10/10. True Louisiana Style. Perfectly soaked, juicy, with the perfect spice level.

Growing up in Southern Louisiana, I was excited to try The South southern kitchen. My fiance and I tried almost everything on the menu. The boudin balls were delicious yet spicy with light breading. The gumbo was authentic southern Louisiana gumbo but was not spicy. The red beans and rice were tasty but needed more of a kick. The cornbread was also authentic southern cornbread. The shrimp poboy was filled with juicy shrimp lightly breaded in an amazing blend of spices. The margaritas were very good but not potent at all. The bar was small but seemed to be stocked well. The establishment was clean and tidy. The staff was friendly and gracious. Crawfish was brought out to us that we didn't order, and I immediately dove in because I love crawfish. It was very spicy and burned my throat, but that's how it is supposed to be. Everything was fresh and tasty, and I can't wait to see how far The South restaurant goes.

I first heard about The South a few years ago at the Taste of Wylie before they even opened their doors. The owner was there with samples and they were delicious. We finally made it over there last night and I am so glad we did! I absolutely love Cajun food, but sometimes when people try to attempt Cajun food they just dump a bunch of hot/pepper spices in it because in their minds RIDICULOUSLY HOT Cajun I am so glad to say this was not the case at The South. Upon entering, the atmosphere is welcoming and homey- it felt like the perfect little neighborhood restaurant. I ordered the Crawfish Etouffee and my husband ordered the Dirty South. Both dishes were rich in flavor, excellent portion sizes, and absolutely delicious. While we were waiting the owner brought us a sample of the Jambalaya Balls- a great way to start off and we will definitely order those in the future. The sauce it came with was the perfect compliment to the flavors in the ball itself. Our waitress was attentive and friendly, we will absolutely be back again! What a gem right here in Wylie!

Good cajun isn’t easy to find around here, but this place is LEGIT! Well worth the drive from Frisco. My husband is from far west MS, and considers himself a Cajun connoisseur. He gave it 2 thumbs up. To drink: -Frozen hurricane -Frozen hurricane and pina colada swirl Both were great and I loved the cute little pouches they came in. To eat: -Boudin balls (delicious) -Jambalaya balls (delicious) -Gumbo (“really good” per my husband) -Cornbread (very tasty) -Red beans and rice (SO good- it had pork belly in it) -Fish sandwich (delicious) -Fried shrimp (tasty) -Fried catfish (seriously one of the best I’ve ever had and I’m a catfish lover- well seasoned and the batter was amazing- and their tartar sauce was really good so that’s a plus too)

We have been to The South more times than I can count, and we have never been disappointed. There's still true hospitality that can be hard to find in today's busy world. The gumbo is well worth the price and even better with the cornbread. It's unexpected and appreciated whenever we get a surprise sample of an appetizer or side. The service and the flavors really make it stand out!

I got the Dirty south and a bowl of their gumbo with some corn bread. This food was fantastic and had a very well balanced flavor profile. The workers there are great and attentive and the owner D. Knows what he's doing. I highly recommend coming to eat here for some true Louisiana cooking.

We’ve been to The South twice now and both times have been extremely satisfied! The service is great and the crawfish are delicious! We also really like the boudin balls and the hush puppies! When crawfish season ends we’ll have to try some of the other menu items!
